Local Pick of the Month: Pumpkins and Pretending
Looking for the perfect addition to your fall TBR? Meet Pumpkins and Pretending.
She needs a fake boyfriend. He’s been secretly in love with her for years.
After a sports injury ends her college scholarship, Leah Miller is determined to save her family’s failing business. It feels like her last chance to prove to everyone — including herself — that she can still make something of her future, even if it means turning her life into a questionable full-scale publicity campaign.
Sam Cooper has always been the kind of person who puts everyone else’s dreams and needs ahead of his own. As Leah’s older brother’s best friend, he’s spent years showing up for the Miller family — and caring about Leah far more than he should.
When Leah posts staged engagement photos of them designed to promote Miller Farms, they quickly catch the attention of the internet and local news stations. It’s the publicity miracle Leah has been looking for… as long as she can convince Sam to be her fake fiancé through fall.
But between festival chaos, runaway goats, and a town far too invested in their relationship, the line between fiction and reality quickly blurs.
And when the future she’s been fighting for collides with the feelings she’s been trying to ignore, Leah must decide what she’s truly unwilling to lose.
Calling All Book Dragons

If you love collecting gorgeous special editions and devour action-packed epic romantic fantasy series like Throne of Glass or Lady of Darkness, you’ll want to check out this deluxe special edition hardback Kickstarter!
The Grayshell Rising series follows seven hierarchies of Nephilim as they discover an ancient prophecy and race against demonic forces to stop the coming of the horsemen.
The saga weaves together four couples’ romances over five books. Local author Sydne (S.J.) Barnett is crowdfunding a special edition — and hopefully a duet audiobook — for the third book in the series, Commanding Blood and Bonds.
The campaign ends Friday, September 4th, with late pledges enabled.
Coming Up: Love By the Lake

Looking for a bookish way to spend a fall Saturday? Love By the Lake: A Romance Author Signing is coming to Boise on Saturday, October 10th!
Stop by to meet and support local romance authors, discover new reads, enjoy local food trucks, and check out 9 Realms Relics, the tabletop gaming store attached to Boss Momma’s Boutique.
Plus, the first 25 attendees will receive a free swag bag!
📅 Saturday, October 10th | 11 AM–4 PM

A few things Kendall, founder of The Vibrant Book Club, is loving this month.
Fall is almost here, and I could not be more excited. There’s just something about this time of year that makes me want to romanticize absolutely everything — cozy mornings, coffee runs, crisp evenings, and, of course, a new stack of books on my nightstand.
📖 On My Fall TBR: The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches and The Pumpkin Spice Café
☕ Current Obsession: Banana bread lattes. If it tastes like fall and comes in a cute coffee cup, I’m probably ordering it.
More than anything, I’m excited for another month of bringing Boise book lovers together. Whether we see you at one of our events, run into you at a local bookstore, or you're simply reading along from home, I hope The Boise Bookmark helps you feel a little more connected to our bookish community.
Here’s to cozy reads, new friends, and the beginning of my favorite season. 🤎
