The Dead Romantics promises ghostly charm, romantic tension, and a journey through grief—and while it had its moments, this one didn’t quite hit all the right notes for me.

📚 Genre: Contemporary Romance (with a supernatural twist)

Plot Summary:
Florence Day is a ghostwriter for a bestselling romance author… which would be great, if she could actually write about love right now. Reeling from a breakup, she’s struggling creatively—and when her new editor refuses to give her an extension, it only adds fuel to the fire.

But before she can even process that rejection, she gets the news: her father has passed away.

Suddenly she’s back in her quirky hometown, navigating grief, helping plan a funeral, and—oh yeah—interacting with a ghost who may or may not be her hot, brooding editor.

Between the paranormal twist, the enemies-to-lovers tension, and themes of loss and healing, there’s a lot going on. But does it all land?

Kara’s Thoughts:
“This was a cute book… but if I’m being honest, I was expecting more.”

There were definitely elements Kara enjoyed—especially the banter and the exploration of grief—but at times the emotional beats felt a little forced. The characters didn’t fully come to life, and the story, while cozy, felt overly familiar.

It wasn’t a bad book—it just didn’t surprise or captivate.

Would Kara recommend it?
Maybe. If you’re in the mood for:
👻 Ghosts with unfinished business
❤️🩹 Romance stories laced with grief and healing
🏡 Small-town vibes and forced proximity
📝 A writer struggling to find their spark again

…then it might be worth a read. But if you're looking for something unpredictable and emotionally immersive, you might want to keep this one for a lazy Sunday.

Sometimes you pick up a book hoping to fall in love, and other times… it's a slow dance that doesn’t quite hit the crescendo. Still, The Dead Romantics is a soft, comforting read for those who don’t mind a bit of predictability and ghostly charm.
